Tips for New Users

Welcome to TrueLobby! To get the most out of your experience on TrueLobby, here are some helpful tips on how to get started:

Home Page (Dashboard)

  • Notifications - These are alerts about bill stages on bills you are following and notices from friends, or people who may want to be your friend.
  • My Legislators - View that legislator's home page and prime sponsored bills by clicking on the legislator's name. When you post comments on their wall, it will be visible to all people in your district and to your legislator.
  • Bill Search - Search for a bill by keyword or bill number. Once you find a bill of interest, click on the "Track This Bill" button. Set your position on the bill: Pro, Con, or Neutral. Your legislator will be able to see your position plus the percentage of voters in the district that are Pro or Con on the bill! So let them know what you think.
  • My Priority Issues - These are key words that you are following. Enter the words using the "Add a Keyword" link, and we will alert you whenever a bill is introduced with that word in the title.

Profile

  • Upload your photo by clicking on the image place
  • Bio - Click "Edit Your Bio" and put in the information you would want anyone to see. Your Occupation is a great way for your legislator to see how many people in your trade are in the district. For example, Firefighter, Teacher, Ironworker, or self employed. This is valuable information to legislators and will help you elevate your concerns.

Bills

  • Search for a Bill - by keyword or number
  • Click on the bill number to see the Bill page and track the bill if you would like by clicking the Track This Bill button.
  • View Full Bill - Displays a PDF of the entire bill.
  • Bill Positions - set your position on the bill: Pro, Con or Neutral.
  • Bill Comments - type in your comments to your legislator on the bill page or the legislator's home page. All legislators will be able to see your comments on the bill page.

Groups

Groups are Unions, trade associations and PACs in Washington State. If you are a member of a group that has been created on TrueLobby, go to that group's home page on TrueLobby and request to belong to the group. If approved by your group administrator, you will be able to post comments to your legislators and include the group logo with your comment. This increases your influence and your group's influence at the same time!

More to Come!

Please understand that we are still adding numerous features to this site that you will enjoy and help you stay better informed. We hope to be able to bring you to your Congressmen on the national level by this time next year. TrueLobby is doing its best to create the best political communication site in the country. Please feel free to send us your ideas by using the Feedback tab on the top of the page.

If you are a registered lobbyist in the State of Washington or California, we have created a free account for you. It is free for you to use for the first 30 days after you log in. If you have not received a username and password for your Lobbyist Account, please contact us right away and we'll send you your info. Voters are always free but they will not have the access or communication tools that Lobbyists will have.

Please understand that we are continually improving the site over to provide you the best, most comprehensive, online advocacy experience possible. With that in mind, your suggestions are extremely valuable to us, especially as we roll out nationwide. Feel free to use the Feedback Tab whenever you have a great idea or a concern about the site.

Once you are logged in as a lobbyist here is how you get started:

Home page (1st tab on top)

  • Notifications - These are alerts about bill stages and people's activities that may be important to you.
  • Contact Legislator - Select a legislator from the drop down menu. You can then send a message to the legislator (private note between you and the legislator or staffer), write on the legislator's wall (public will see), or simply view that legislator's home page and prime sponsored bills.
  • Bill Search - Search for a bill by keyword or bill number. Once you find a bill of interest, click on the Track This Bill button. This will create a Bill Position place for you that all legislators will see.

Note: When you choose to track a bill, you will be given the choice of which client to track it for; then only the selected client logo will be shown on the legislator's bill page. We will build in a feature soon that will allow you to showcase your clients and their issues in this section along with a drill down to their position statements. The position statement may be uploaded by you, as soon as we build that feature in. The legislators will then be able to see the position statements when they vote from the floor.

Some of your clients like unions and trade associations will want to be a group on TrueLobby. This will be a great resource for you and for them. You can create a free group for 30 days! Because some of the features are very powerful, we will have to approve the group before deploying it live. We are not biased towards or against any group, we just want to make sure that the group is a legitimate entity.

Examples of legitimate groups:

  • Trade Associations
  • Unions
  • Non-profits
  • Businesses with governmental affairs staff, or lobbyists
  • Government agencies
  • Think Tanks
  • PAC

If you are interested in creating a group for your client's advocacy efforts, please click on Create Group. And we will get you set up. Your client's will love you for it!

If you are a Union, PAC, Trade Association, or a Business that wants a greater presence in Olympia, TrueLobby wants to help. We will give you a free account on the TrueLobby political communication portal for 30 days. After this time, if you want to keep your account, the expense is $5000 annually.

Please understand that we are continually improving the site over the next month to provide you the best, most comprehensive, online advocacy experience possible. With that in mind, your suggestions are extremely valuable to us, especially as we roll this site out nationwide. Feel free to use the Feedback Tab whenever you have a great idea or a concern about the site.

Here is how you get started

Have your key person (who is going to administer the account) log on for a free account, just like all voters do. Once logged on, here are the steps:

Go to the Groups tab on the top of the page. Click "create group". Fill in the information in the boxes and upload your association's logo.

When complete, click the "Submit to Moderation Queue" button so that we can approve you. This process is simply to make sure that you are a legitimate association. We want to promote true communication and enhance our democracy, so all legitimate groups will be approved for the free trial, regardless of political leaning or affiliation!
