Bill HB 1352 (Biennium: 2011-2012)

Providing funds for the Washington state ferry system and other transportation purposes by narrowing the nonresident sales and use tax exemption.

Apr 11 - By resolution, reintroduced and retained in present status.

Introduced by Rep. Jeff Morris, (D-Mt. Vernon) (D) on January 19, 2011, eliminates the sales tax exemption for residents of Canadian provinces and other states if the home jurisdiction of the purchaser collects at least three percent retail sales tax from retail establishments in their home jurisdiction, or if the purchaser takes possession of the property in a Washington county located adjacent to another state. This act requires the Department of Revenue to report annually to the State Treasurer the change in sales tax revenue received, beginning on July 1, 2012. Also beginning on July 1, 2012, the State Treasurer must deposit eighty percent of the increased revenue into the Puget Sound Capital Construction Account and the remainder into the Multimodal Transportation Account. This act takes effect July 1, 2011.
